Mom vs Monkey

Last night I was helping my dyslexic 10-year-old daughter get herself organized for upcoming spelling tests. She groups the words together so that they make logical sense to her (and obviously not to me!).

I wrote up several practice templates like this:
-ch
1.
2.
3.
4.
known words
1.
2.
3.
4.
-ic
1.
2.
3.
glued sounds
1.
2.
3.
4.
Weird words
1.
2.
3.
4.
She asked me to color code each title and put a box around “weird”. I succeeded up until this part.
On one of the templates, I forgot to put a box around “weird”. My daughter took one look at it and said to me, “I should have hired a monkey”!
Apparently my daughter is smarter than her MBA-educated mother!

I always admire the effort you put in to help your daughter…she is so lucky to have you (though I’m sure you wish a monkey could do the work for you sometimes too!). I grew up with a severely dyslexic brother and my mom put her heart and soul into making his world a bit easier. I know how hard it is from watching her and I wish you and your daughter continued success!
