Leaving Las Vegas

January 9th, 2010 by Jeanne, Social Marketing, Sunnyvale office

It’s been a whirlwind 26 hours (no thanks to Southwest Airlines!) here in Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show. Today I attended the Mommy Tech full day session which discussed mom as the decision maker, schedule keeper, memory archivist, and even doctor of the household. Gosh, we wear so many hats don’t we?

A bevy of gadgets and software aimed at helping mom stay organized, informed and save time were shown for busy moms on the go. I saw everything from a touchless thermometer (perfect for when you want to take the temp of a sleeping baby) to a vacuuming robot (I think this would give my Dyson-fearing dog a panic attack!) to new Netbooks to video cameras (I heart the Sony Bloggie HD) to a fanny pack that says it can make my baby smarter (so not fashionable!) and even a scale that can Twitter (I’ll pass on that feature. Thank you.).

The talk of CES was the 3D home televisions. They’re cool, but do I really want the whole family to wear goofy glasses when we watch TV? I think not. However, I did see a few TVs that I would love. I want an LED TV! The picture is crystal clear, they’re energy efficient and they are thinner than my Blackberry. Yes, it’s the skinniest TV you’ll ever see – that b*tch! ;) For someone like me who lives in a tiny house, this TV would save space and look sweet at the same time. Samsung, if you’re reading this send one my way!

100,000 tech geeks descending on Vegas have left me claustrophobic and exhausted. I’m glad I attended the first Mommy Tech event at CES. I saw cool technology and met many great women. Sadly, one of them was not Polaroid’s new creative director, Lady Gaga – damn! I’m ready to take a nap on my hour-long flight back home to SFO and see my baby girl when she wakes in morning! Until next year CES…
