One Crucial Detail Overlooked, One Crucial Person Left Behind

Imagine this. You’re at the airport bright and early because you’re about to go on a much-needed family vacation with your husband and child. You’ve been up all night packing and finishing up last-minute details for work. You’re very tired, but so excited to be finally going to Mexico. All you can think about is lounging in a beach chair, drinking a margarita with your husband, and watching your child play around in the sand.

Not!

The reality is that you’re at the airport bright and early, but your son is hanging onto your knees crying, and your husband is looking extremely grim because the ticket agent at Mexicana Air has just informed him that his passport expired last August! (more…)

My son is afraid of new food!

To say that my 6-year-old son, Dylan, is a creature of habit is an understatement. He will happily eat the same food every day, go to sushi only on Fridays (because that’s what we did the first time we went), will watch the same movie 15 times over, and have the same book read to him every night for weeks. It takes a drawn out battle to get him to try something new. But the worst is the food.  He politely refuses just about every new food we present to him – even pizza!

I am grateful that Dylan does eat from the 4 food groups but his range is very limited – pasta and couscous, green beans and sugar snap peas, cheese, tofu, almonds, and oranges – those are the staples. Ever so often Bill and I talk about instituting some tough love in the form of presenting him with the same food every meal until he tries it, but we never seem to be able to stick to it.  (more…)
