Career Boosting Fun at Yahoo! Global Career Week

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Sessions, workshops, opportunities, networking… This was one event-packed, motivational week at Yahoo! thanks to Global Career Week, organized by the Yahoo! Women In Tech. This grass-roots employee organization helps women (like me!) succeed in our careers at Yahoo! by finding great ways to inspire and support not only employees, but the next generation of technical women.

One great workshop at the event was ‘Lego Serious Play’. It was a special hands-on, minds-on learning workshop that helped women explore, realize and articulate their goals—and the potential for action. It was such a fun, interactive way to foster creative thinking through three-dimensional self-discovery exercises, and left everyone feeling energized and mentally stimulated.

Another fun session was ‘Growing Your Career At Yahoo!’. (more…)

Goodbye Worry, Hello Adventure

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Last week we got back from a short vacation. A road trip to LA. We visited the favorites—Disneyland and Universal Studios—plus some pretty stops along the way.

Disney land we three

But what set this trip apart from others is the fact that it was our first since getting pregnant—almost two years ago. Yes, you read that right. After I learned I was expecting, I didn’t travel anywhere. Unbelievably foolish as it sounds, I was always worried that too much traveling in the car might be harmful to the pregnancy, or that going different places might lead to an infection. I wanted to keep the baby as safe as possible. I didn’t want to do anything that could remotely put the pregnancy at risk. I didn’t think I would be like this, you know. After all, it was my first time being pregnant and my pregnancy was like a text book pregnancy. But even so, the worrier in me just didn’t want to travel. (more…)

Mirror, Mirror on the wall..

“Who’s the fairest one of all?”

Unlike the Queen in Snow White and Seven Dwarfs, I don’t have the luxury of standing in front of my mirror and spending a lot of time on my appearance every day. As a working, first-time mom, I find myself invariably in a rush – whether it’s cleaning, cooking, getting to work on time, managing deadlines or the simply caring for a demanding baby. Thanks to the baby I’m in desperate need of a mani/pedi and my hair hasn’t has a professional cut in months! Forget trips to the spa. Buh-bye! Instead, I’ve created these at-home quick beauty treatments. I bask in my DIY beauty prowess!

Hair
Once or twice a week, I apply some whisked raw egg directly to my hair before I take a shower. This gives a lovely shine and fabulous luster to my hair. You don’t have to leave it on for too long, just a few minutes before you hit the shower works wonders! (more…)

Aarohi Turns One!

Monday, March 15th, 2010

My daughter, Aarohi, does not know she is one year old today. She does not know how much our lives have changed since she was born. She does not know about the thrill and joy we experience when she makes a discovery. She does not know how remarkable we’ve found her instinctive achievements like sitting, crawling and walking. She does not know how much fun it is for us to watch her actions all the time. She does not know how we rush back home after work to be with her.

But, I think she knows one thing: She is the one who makes our world go round.

Happy First Birthday sweetheart. Keep our lives spinning.

Stuffed Mushrooms

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

The other day my 10-month-old decided to take a short evening nap leaving me with some free time. For a mother who loves to cook un-interrupted in the kitchen and do a little experimenting, this was a welcome nap! Since it was too early for dinner, I decided to make a snack.

I checked the refrigerator, and saw mushrooms, cheese and spinach. It was time for stuffed mushrooms! (more…)

Is it Fall yet?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

The Northeast region of the US, especially New England (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut) is one of the regions where you get to experience all four seasons in their crowning glory. Of all the fond memories that I have of my time in Boston, the ones with the Fall Season are the most nostalgic.

The leaves would start to change color, the winds would get cooler and the dusk would set in sooner. Pumpkin spiced lattes and apple ciders would adorn the specials board in cafes and new sweaters, scarves and boots would spruce up the shelves in stores. (more…)

Life as a new mommy

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

When your first baby is born, the early days are the ones where your new lifestyle as a mother starts staring at you in the face.

baby

You find that your days and nights suddenly become consumed with numerous feeding sessions. You realize the significance of burps. You start worrying about somebody else’s bowel movements. You become a “rock singer,” learning how to sing and rock at the same time so that the baby falls asleep. You become very careful while tip-toeing out of the room lest the slightest of sound – be it a rustle of your foot against the carpet or a slightly stronger breath – break the precarious sleep that the little one has fallen into. As the days go by, you get the hang of completing the chores while the baby is sleeping. Most important, you begin to learn how to get through the day with a few hours of sporadic sleep.
